Here Comes Summer…

While many of us look forward to the summer months, the thought of shedding the layers and wearing less sends some of us into cold sweats. Bikini season sees many people starting up the excersice in a desperate bid to look and feel slimmer, but all this thought of hard work just doesn’t appeal to the likes of me. Instead I’m opting for using my favourite new cosmetics to make me look like the summer goddess I so want to be, without all the hard work.

I will always stand by my love for Rimmel make-up for everyday use, but I have a secret weapon for making me look fabulous. Its Vichy make-up, one of the most effective cosmetic brands available. Skin Recovery

If, like me, you love to wear make-up every day all day, there are some annoying side effects of looking so glam in the cold winter months! Im sure you will know what I am talking about when I say dry skin, oily patches, spots, blemishes and lots more. This is probably due to the cold weather outside, and the stuffy central heating air inside. But there are things you can do to try and reduce these nasty outcomes. Fist of all, I know its winter and its cold and all you want to drink is nice warm beverages like tea and coffee, but lets face it, that won’t do your skin any favours. Instead, try to drink around 2 litres of water a day to properly hydrate your skin and wash away any impurities. Its a fact!

Secondly you can make sure you have a proper facial treatment every night that consists of properly removing your make-up, cleansing and toning, to make you skin glow. If you suffer from dry skin in the winter, purchse a good moisturiser that complemets your skin type like Nivea Visage Oil Free Moisturising Fluid.This will moisturise your skin without making you more oily. There are a wide variety of products out there that you can get your hands on so it is worth looking into it.

Also, if you suffer from oily skin, its probably because you are using cheap make-up. Using a more expensive foundation really can make a difference to the cover you get, even though they can be a bit pricey. Alternatively, you can use pressed powder that may give you the same effect without the heavy price tag. 

Lastly, as long as you treat your body well by drinking and eating healthy, your skin should work itself out, so go and have an orange and a drink of water!

Halloween make-up

Its that time of year, pumpkins, costumes, and halloween make-up. The perfect time to be totally adventurous with your make-up and cosmetics. From ghostly to pretty, you can do what you want, and most importantly, get away with it.

I think the best look to go for this Halloween is the dead look. I know this sounds strange, but believe me, the scarier your outfit is, the more impressive it will be. This is due to the gothic look that has taken the winter fashion by storm. So it will be easy to exaggerate this to make it a prefect costume for this years halloween. Try to stay away from the slightly dated outfits like “nurses” and “school girls”. These looks are so common now that the chances of you standing out are very slim.

If you take my advice and go for the scary look, such as a vampire or zombie, make sure you have a white mat base that will make your skin look cold and plastic with dark black eyes that are over exaggerated and most importantly, that are scary. You can smudge this as much as you want to really get the look of a dead person. Lip colour can be kept pale with fake wrinkels for a zombie but for a more sinister vampire look, go for dark rep lips and have fangs and fake blood. This will be sure to give your friends a fright.

Remember, if you are going out clubbing for Halloween or going to a party, make sure you bring supplies with you. It wouldn’t be good if your make-up starts falling of your face.

Winter make-up trends

Ok, so the summer is officially ending and winter is almost here. My biggest worry is not if I have the right winter coat or boots, but if my make-up and cosmetics that I have been religiously applying every day of our rainy summer will still be on trend in the cold (and probably wet) winter.

Make-up and cosmetics can be a lot of fun and can make you feel like a whole new person so it is worth investing some of your time and money in it. It’s one of the first things that people notice so it can be very important to your image and style. To help, here are some things that us girls show know about beauty…

Well, I have done some research (reading this weeks Grazia and Look magazine) and have read up on all the winter make-up trends. Apparently the goth look is in. This means black eye-liner and lots of it with dark red lips, a pale skin tone with hair pulled up and of the face tightly. This may suit some people, like Kate Moss, but for an ordinary someone like myself, I’m not sure I would be able to pull it off. But there is no need to worry, a soft pretty palette of rosie sublte shades that would suit most skin tones is also going to be a top trend. This comes as a great relief, after all, I’m not sure if I want to look like I’m wearing a Halloween costume every day. I think I will just keep that for the 31st! Another trend that is in for winter make-up and cosmetics is gold. Yes you read right, I said gold. This means gold glittery eye-shadow with gold light bronzer making a very good look for any christmas work night out. So we can all dazzel our bosses and work colleages!

The most important thing I always remember is that as long as you have a flawless complexion, bright and defined eyes, with kissable looking lips, your on to a winning look, no matter what the trends are. Also, healthy looking hair and teeth make for a good look on anyone. Everyone knows what they suit and don’t suit when it comes to beauty and cosmetics so as long as you comfortable, then go for whatever trend you dare.
